Borders Country Cottages

About Me

Hello, I’m Lowri

I live locally, between Birgham on the River Tweed and Eccles, with my husband Peter. We have three (almost grown up!) children. When we first moved to the Scottish Borders our rented home came with a holiday cottage. I really enjoyed meeting and looking after our guests and making the cottage as perfect for them as possible. When we moved, I missed the guest interaction and started searching for a new project to make into the kind of holiday cottage that I would like to stay in.
It is so rewarding when guests return year on year

We loved Greenloaning as soon as we saw it. A proper project to get my teeth into. A complete top to toe refurbishment from new floors, windows, plumbing, Central heating, electrics–It is a long list, so I won’t bore you with the details…We discovered a wonderful original stone fireplace behind the 70’s brick one. It is now lovely spacious and relaxing cottage kept snug by the log burning stove. The fully enclosed garden is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the sun and birdsong and is large enough for children and dogs to let off steam. The garden almost doubled in size once everything had been cut back and has been transformed. We even discovered an old well (made safe by anew wall surround and grill). Its location is great, being on the edge of the conservation village of Allanton with its award-winning dining pub. 15 minutes to fabulous North Northumberland and East Scottish unspoilt dog friendly beaches, Great for walking, cycling, fishing, golf, riding…need I go on?

Bartlehill Cottage has the most beautiful uninterrupted views over farmland towards the Cheviot Hills to the front and to the rear from the fully enclosed garden you can see Hume Castle. It was another complete refurbishment. Luckily, I love a challenge! It is a warm, welcoming, and comfortable place to spend time. Perfect for a family or a group of friends. It even has a games room in the old garage. Table tennis anyone? It is in a cracking location in the central Borders. Easy access to the wonderful beaches on the East Coast. The popular Market towns of Kelso and Melrose are to the West, and the Cheviot Hills and Northumberland to the south. Edinburgh is just an hour to the North. Suitable for anyone looking for a break truly away from it all yet with endless things to do if you choose.
